Our population has been subjected to repeated atrocities for nearly four years,\u201d<\/i> said one of the deputies. <i>\u201cThe situation is dramatic and demands urgent, coordinated responses to finally bring about sustainable peace.\u201d<\/i><i><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">Tanganyika, located in southeastern DR Congo, has long struggled with <span class=\"s1\"><b>intercommunal violence<\/b><\/span>, particularly between <span class=\"s1\"><b>Twa (pygmy) and Bantu communities<\/b><\/span>. The conflict, often rooted in <span class=\"s1\"><b>land disputes, socio-economic marginalization, and historical tensions<\/b><\/span>, has led to the displacement of thousands of people, destruction of homes, and persistent insecurity.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\">The violence has intensified since 2021, with armed groups and local militias regularly clashing, while state authority and security forces remain weak or absent in many rural areas. According to a statement from her office, the Prime Minister promised to <span class=\"s1\"><b>strengthen military deployments, improve coordination with humanitarian actors, and accelerate disarmament and reconciliation programs<\/b><\/span> in the region.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>\u201cPeace in Tanganyika cannot wait. We will not ignore the suffering of our compatriots,\u201d<\/i> she reportedly told the deputies.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">However, the delegation urged the government to move beyond promises and take <span class=\"s1\"><b>concrete actions<\/b><\/span>, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">Reinforcing the <span class=\"s1\"><b>presence and effectiveness of the FARDC<\/b><\/span> (Congolese Armed Forces);<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">Deploying a <span class=\"s1\"><b>special investigative mission<\/b><\/span> to document crimes committed against civilians;<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">Providing <span class=\"s1\"><b>urgent humanitarian assistance<\/b><\/span> to internally displaced persons (IDPs);<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Engaging local traditional leaders in <\/span><b>reconciliation efforts and community dialogue<\/b><span class=\"s1\">;<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"p1\">Working with international partners to <span class=\"s1\"><b>prevent future atrocities<\/b><\/span>.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p3\">The MPs also used the occasion to call on the <span class=\"s1\"><b>United Nations, African Union, and regional bodies<\/b><\/span> to step up their efforts in preventing further bloodshed. They emphasized the need for <span class=\"s1\"><b>more visibility and attention<\/b><\/span> to the suffering in Tanganyika, which they say has been largely ignored compared to crises in the eastern provinces like North Kivu and Ituri.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><i>\u201cThe silence of the world in the face of our tragedy is painful,\u201d<\/i> one of the lawmakers stated. <i>\u201cEvery life in Tanganyika counts. We cannot accept to be forgotten.\u201d<\/i><i><\/i><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p class=\"p3\">While the meeting did not lead to an immediate action plan, it marked an important step in elevating Tanganyika\u2019s plight to the highest level of government.
