During the meeting, Minister Prévot reaffirmed the support of Belgium and several other European countries for the ongoing initiatives led by the Congolese government, regional organizations, and international partners to restore peace and stability in the DRC.
According to the Belgian Foreign Minister, his country is committed to give these peace efforts the best possible chance to succeed and is actively contributing to their implementation.
“We remain a strong and credible long-standing actor in the Great Lakes region,” said Mr. Prévot. “We conveyed to President Tshisekedi the firm support of Belgium and, more broadly, that of the European community of states.”
This visit comes at a critical time, as multiple diplomatic frameworks including those based in Luanda, Nairobi, and Doha are currently being explored to resolve the persistent conflicts in eastern Congo. The support of Belgium and the wider European Union is seen as crucial to lending international legitimacy and resources to these peacebuilding efforts.
