In an official statement, the government spokesperson declared:
“Intelligence reports at our disposal indicate that the Rwandan army and M23/AFC auxiliaries, under increasing pressure on several fronts, are preparing to carry out new massacres and targeted assassinations of civilians in the areas they illegally occupy. These barbaric acts are intended to instill fear, destabilize the region, and desperately blackmail our national army.”
Since the resurgence of fighting in North Kivu, tensions have intensified, with multiple reports pointing to serious human rights violations in territories under M23/AFC control. According to Kinshasa and several international organisations, the group receives military and logistical support from Rwanda a claim Kigali denies.
The Congolese government is calling on the international community to break its silence in the face of what it terms “disguised ethnic cleansing” and a “strategy of terror.” Authorities urge the United Nations, African Union, and bilateral partners to strongly condemn these actions and implement concrete measures against Rwanda for its alleged involvement in fueling the conflict.
At the same time, the government reiterated that the FARDC remains committed to defending the country’s territorial integrity and protecting civilians. “Our army is on the ground, disciplined and resolute in its mission to restore order and security across the national territory,” the spokesperson emphasized.
As the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate in conflict zones, thousands of civilians are fleeing their homes, deepening an already critical crisis. Kinshasa is appealing for urgent mobilisation to assist displaced persons and restore peace in the region.
