In front of the press, Prime Minister Sama Lukonde first praised the position of “country-solution” occupied by the DRC with regard to issues related to the fight against climate change.
The Head of Government also reviewed the issues of carbon credit.
“We say that we are a solution country, in three respects. The first is to say we have 62% of the Congo Basin forests, which we share with 16 other countries, but inside the DRC alone, we have 62%. Alongside this, we have peat bogs, mangroves, which also allow us to capture greenhouse gases. Today, we are talking about nearly 3% of the greenhouse gases that are emitted, that we can capture,” said Jean-Michel Sama Lukonde.
He also returned to the discussions at the Center of the debate, in particular the major reforms proposed to make the global financial system more flexible and efficient, through the two main international financial institutions, namely the World Bank and the Monetary Fund. international.
According to the Prime Minister, all the participants agreed on the need to reform these two financial institutions, set up 80 years ago in Breton Woods, without African countries.
The participants also agreed on the need to take into account the sovereignty of African countries, with regard to the choice of projects and sectors to which funding should be directed, Prime Minister Sama Lukonde said.
